Why This Matters

Counterpoint's data shows the smartwatch market shrinking 4% year over year, yet Apple grew shipments 14% and Garmin 11%, suggesting demand is consolidating around a few strong brands rather than disappearing. Apple's rebound in China, aided by consumer electronics subsidies, is notable after last year's slump, though Huawei still leads globally with a record 21.8% share on the strength of its home market.

Key Takeaways

A new Counterpoint Research report shows Apple, Garmin, and Huawei bucking a market-wide decline in smartwatch shipments in Q2 2026, with Huawei reaching a record share of global shipments. Here are the details.

Apple records growth across all regions

In a new report published yesterday, Counterpoint Research says the smartwatch market saw a 4% year-over-year decline in global shipments in the second quarter of 2026.

According to the report, Apple saw the biggest jump, with shipments up 14% year over year and accounting for 20.1% of global smartwatch shipments. This kept Apple in second place, behind Huawei, which saw shipments grow 1% year over year and held a 21.8% share.

The ranking continues with Imoo, which held a 7.8% share despite a 3% year-over-year drop in shipments, followed by Xiaomi at 6.1% with a whopping 38% decline. Garmin held a 5.6% share after shipments grew 11%, while other brands collectively accounted for the remaining 38.5%, with shipments down 8% year over year.

Here’s Anshika Jain, Principal Analyst at Counterpoint Research, on Apple’s performance for the quarter, compared with its closest competitors:

“Huawei led the market shipments in Q2 2026, while Apple recorded the fastest YoY growth among the top five brands. Apple recorded growth across all regions, driven by the continued adoption of its refreshed late-2025 lineup. The Apple Watch Series 11 and Watch SE 3 together accounted for over 80% of Apple’s global shipments in Q2 2026. China was the primary driver of Huawei’s growth, accounting for approximately 80% of its global shipments.”

The report also noted that Apple recorded the fastest growth among the top five brands in China for the quarter, “signaling its recovery following the decline seen in the same quarter of 2025,” with the country’s consumer electronics subsidy program also helping boost smartwatch sales.
