GoKawiilPerplexity brings Portable Computer AI agent to Windows for RTX GPUs with 24GB+ VRAM
Perplexity has expanded its Portable Computer agent, previously Linux-only, to Windows through partnership with Nvidia. The tool requires a GeForce RTX or RTX PRO GPU with at least 24GB of VRAM plus a Perplexity Pro or Max subscription, and runs multistep agent tasks locally instead of in the cloud. The Windows release adds scheduled recurring tasks, local MCP servers for desktop apps, connectors for Word, Drive, Gmail, Slack and GitHub, and one-click local model downloads.
GoKawiil's interpretation of the reporting above, not reported fact.
By running agent workloads locally rather than through cloud credits, Perplexity ties premium AI functionality directly to high-end Nvidia hardware, effectively creating a new incentive for consumers to buy VRAM-heavy GPUs. The strict 24GB VRAM threshold excludes most mainstream cards, signaling that local AI agents remain a niche for enthusiasts and professionals with top-tier hardware rather than a mass-market feature.
- Portable Computer now works on Windows via Nvidia RTX/RTX PRO GPUs with 24GB+ VRAM.
- Local processing avoids cloud credit usage but still requires a Perplexity Pro or Max subscription.
- New features include recurring task scheduling, local MCP servers, app connectors, and one-click local model downloads.
