Let It Go: Here’s How to Keep Kids’ Music Out of Your Spotify Wrapped

read original get Amazon Echo Pop Kids → more articles
Why This Matters

Spotify is finally letting users keep kids' and family music from skewing their personalized recommendations and Wrapped, a long-standing annoyance for parents sharing one account. The toggle works retroactively, so this year's Wrapped can exclude past Frozen marathons. It's a small but telling example of platforms adapting personalization to the reality of shared household accounts.

Key Takeaways
Worth a Look

Amazon Echo Pop Kids — If the kids' playlists keep hijacking your listening profile, give them their own speaker. The Echo Pop Kids is a compact, colorful smart speaker built for kids' rooms, with parental controls so Baby Shark stays where it belongs — far from your Spotify Wrapped.

For the first time in forever, your year-end Spotify Wrapped compilation can now reflect your own musical tastes, not your kids’ most-played songs.

Many Spotify users look forward to their Wrapped roundup, which comes out in early December. But if your Spotify account entertains a family throughout the year, your Wrapped may lean heavily on Disney tunes and Baby Shark. Now, you can fix that, doo-doo, doo-doo, doo-doo.

Kids’ and family music have been included in your Spotify taste profile by default. As of Tuesday, however, a new setting is rolling out globally on mobile for Free and Premium users, allowing you to opt out. If you choose this option, songs from kids’ animated movies, theme songs from family TV shows, nursery rhymes and similar tunes won’t influence your Spotify recommendations or listening insights, such as Wrapped.

If you choose to exclude family and kids’ music, you can still search for those tunes, listen to them and add them to playlists as much as you like. But that music will no longer appear in the personalized lists shaped by your top tracks — including Wrapped, Discover Weekly (a personalized playlist suggesting 30 songs every Monday) and Daily Mix (personalized playlists based on artists, moods and genres you play regularly).

To exclude kids’ and family music from your taste profile, tap your profile picture in the top-left corner of your Spotify account, go to Settings, select Content and Display and switch off the toggle that asks whether you want to include kids’ and family music in your taste profile. Spotify says it may take up to 48 hours for these changes to be reflected in your personalized recommendations. Then, it’ll be a whole new world for your Wrapped summary.

Better yet, it applies retroactively. So that day-long Frozen marathon you played back in the summer won’t show up in your Wrapped during the holidays.
