Apple’s next big media event will be this fall’s iPhone 17 unveiling. But another highly anticipated product is rumored to launch soon, possibly before then. A new AirTag 2 is coming, here’s everything we know.
AirTag 2 expected to launch in the next two months
Apple had a busy product launch season earlier this year, with the M4 MacBook Air, iPhone 16e, and more debuting.
But one rumored product that hasn’t yet arrived is AirTag 2.
Following years without a hardware successor, the new AirTag is finally expected to launch soon.
Here’s what Mark Gurman reported last month:

Originally we were expecting a debut around the middle of this year. That’s still possible, as Apple could very likely launch AirTag 2 via a press release. No major media event is needed.
9to5Mac previously reported that code for iOS 18.6 indicates new compatibility for AirTag 2. That software update is expected to ship within the next month—so AirTag 2 could arrive then too.
Some sources indicate Apple’s now targeting a September debut alongside the iPhone 17. That’s certainly possible.
I imagine, though, that Apple’s keynote will already be packed with four new iPhones, Apple Watch Ultra 3, Apple Watch Series 11, and possibly AirPods Pro 3.
In any case, AirTag 2 is expected to launch some time in the next two months or so.

Here are the main new features that have been rumored:
More modern Ultra Wideband chip, likely the 2nd gen version from iPhone 15
Precision finding with greater range
Improved focus on privacy, including making the speaker harder to remove
Per Mark Gurman, AirTag 2 will “look similar to the current model,” so don’t expect a big design change.
Apple may have some other updates in the works, but so far this is everything we’re expecting.
