’Images that speak to presence as both a state of mind and a way of being’
If you are in the New York area this weekend, Apple is opening a new photography exhibition featuring original work shot entirely on the iPhone 18 Pro.
Running from September 18 through September 20 at 456 West 18th Street in New York City, Apple’s “What Holds Us” exhibition will feature work from photographers Alex Prager, Jack Davison, and Jimmy Chin, with each artist using the iPhone 18 Pro to explore the “people, places, and ideas that connect and ground humanity,” the company says.
The exhibition was curated by Kathy Ryan, the former longtime director of photography for The New York Times Magazine, and is meant to showcase the range of creative possibilities enabled by the iPhone 18 Pro’s new camera system, including its variable aperture.
According to Apple, Chin’s work focuses on the Bugaboo Mountains in British Columbia, where he photographed climbers against the surrounding landscape. His images range from tight close-ups to wide panoramas and action shots.

“The resolution and the sharpness on iPhone 18 Pro surprised me. (…) I could shoot a few inches of rock and ice, or a massive panorama, and trust it would hold at size. That is what this work needed. It also meant I carried almost nothing. In the mountains, everything you carry is a decision. I was not thinking about gear. I was thinking about what was in front of me.”
Jack Davison went for a more intimate approach, photographing people interacting with clay and chalk inside a former sugar warehouse in London.
