GoKawiilMicrosoft secures exclusive cloud streaming rights for Grand Theft Auto VI
Xbox CEO Asha Sharma told staff at an internal all-hands meeting that Microsoft has struck a deal giving Xbox Cloud Gaming exclusive rights to stream Grand Theft Auto VI when it launches in November. Rockstar has not yet announced a PC release for the game, and the timing coincides with Microsoft's rollout of a pay-as-you-go option for Xbox Cloud Gaming alongside new limits on streaming hours for Game Pass subscribers.
GoKawiil's interpretation of the reporting above, not reported fact.
The exclusive streaming deal could let Microsoft pull in players without an Xbox or PS5 — especially those on PC or mobile — by positioning Xbox Cloud Gaming as the only way to access one of the year's biggest releases before a PC version exists. It also suggests Microsoft sees cloud streaming, not just hardware, as a competitive wedge, which aligns with Sharma's separate comments about Xbox's next hardware generation, Project Helix, becoming a multi-device family built with partners like AMD.
- Xbox Cloud Gaming will be the only platform able to stream GTA VI at launch in November.
- Microsoft is introducing a pay-as-you-go option for cloud streaming alongside new hourly caps for Game Pass tiers.
- Xbox's next hardware generation, Project Helix, will reportedly be a family of devices built with outside partners.
Xbox Wireless Controller — If you're planning to stream GTA VI via Xbox Cloud Gaming on a PC or mobile device, a genuine Xbox Wireless Controller makes for a much smoother experience than touch controls. It pairs easily over Bluetooth with phones, tablets, and PCs, making it a great companion for cloud gaming sessions.
