GoKawiilNvidia updates DLSS 5 to double speed, cut VRAM use by 20%
Nvidia will roll out an updated DLSS 5 model starting with an NBA 2K27 patch on October 16, claiming it doubles rendering performance and increases overall frame rates by up to 40% while cutting 4K VRAM usage by 20%. The company says all future DLSS 5 titles will use this faster model by default, with Hogwarts Legacy gaining support on November 5, Where Winds Meet also receiving it, and classic games getting neural rendering via RTX Remix from October 23.

DLSS 5's original NBA 2K27 implementation reportedly cut frame rates by more than 60%, effectively requiring an RTX 5090 for smooth 4K play, so these optimizations could make the feature viable on more affordable GPUs. The scaled-back visual changes in Hogwarts Legacy also suggest Nvidia and developers are responding to earlier criticism that neural rendering altered character appearances in unwanted ways, though it remains to be seen how the technique performs across a broader range of hardware.
- DLSS 5 update launches October 16 with NBA 2K27, claiming 2x speed and 20% less 4K VRAM use
- Hogwarts Legacy gets a toned-down DLSS 5 implementation on November 5 after earlier criticism of visual hallucinations
- RTX Remix brings official DLSS 5 neural rendering to classic games like Fallout 4 starting October 23
NVIDIA GeForce RTX 5070 Graphics Card — If you want to actually experience DLSS 5's new neural rendering improvements without needing a flagship card, the RTX 5070 is the sweet spot Nvidia itself cites as capable of hitting 60fps in demanding titles like NBA 2K27. With the latest DLSS 5 update doubling performance and cutting VRAM usage, this card becomes an even more compelling upgrade for smooth 1440p gaming.
