GoKawiilGoogle app teardown reveals offline mode in development for Gemini Live
Android Authority found hidden strings in the Google app (v17.71.17) referencing an 'Offline mode' for Gemini Live, with subtitle text reading 'Use Gemini Live without an internet connection.' The feature appears tied to the account switcher menu based on its naming, but it is not yet live for users.
GoKawiil's interpretation of the reporting above, not reported fact.
Gemini Live currently depends on cloud processing for fast speech recognition and voice synthesis, so Android Authority speculates an offline version could be slower or less capable, possibly lacking features like camera and screen sharing. If Google ships this, it could make AI assistants more usable in areas with poor connectivity, broadening where voice AI can be relied upon.
- Hidden strings in a Google app teardown reference a new 'Offline mode' for Gemini Live
- The feature would let users interact with Gemini Live without an internet connection
- It's unclear if offline mode will support camera/screen sharing or match the speed and accuracy of the cloud version
