Apple Maps is full of updates as part of iOS 26, including a new Liquid Glass design and Preferred Routes proactive feature.
Another notable new feature is Visited Places. Here’s how it works…
Apple Maps Visited Places in iOS 26
Apple describes Visited Places as a way to “help users remember the places they’ve been.”
The feature is completely opt-in. When you open Apple Maps for the first time after installing iOS 26, you can choose to enable Visited Places. All data collected as part of the feature is protected with end-to-end encryption and can’t be accessed by Apple. That’s an important feature for something designed to keep track of where you go.
Apple says:
In Apple Maps, Visited Places help users remember the places they’ve been. Users can choose to have iPhone detect when they’re at a place like a restaurant or shop, and view all of their Visited Places in Maps. Visited Places are protected with end-to-end encryption and cannot be accessed by Apple.
You can find Visited Places by opening the Apple Maps app, tapping your profile picture, tapping “Places,” then choose “Visited Places.”
Here, you can see a breakdown of places you’ve visited by category and city, as well as a full list of all visits. You also have fine-grained control over all the visits, as well as the ability to save a place to a guide, share it, add a note, rate the place, and remove it from your history. Additionally, if Apple Maps isn’t quite sure the exact place you visited, you can tap the “Wrong Location” button and Apple Maps will show you a list of other nearby businesses to help you correct it.
Of note, Apple does say that Visited Places is still a “beta” feature. This means you might encounter some bugs and glitches as you use it, but Apple will continue to refine it as time progresses. It also appears to only be available in the United States for now.
