Apple TV+ has already premiered what’s arguably the best comedy of the year so far: The Studio. But now Seth Rogen has another TV+ debut coming soon—the return of hit comedy Platonic—and it looks better than ever.
Platonic season 2 is almost here, and the trailer looks great
The king of comedy at Apple TV+ has historically, without question, been Bill Lawrence. Lawrence co-created the powerful trio of Ted Lasso, Shrinking, and Bad Monkey.
But now Seth Rogen may be after the title.
After the hugely successful The Studio, which is favored to win Outstanding Comedy Series at this year’s Emmy Awards, Rogen has another Apple TV+ comedy about to arrive.
Platonic, starring Rogen and Rose Byrne, returns for season 2 on Wednesday, August 6.
Two new episodes will premiere initially, with weekly releases through October 1.
The first season was widely praised by critics, and is one of the best reviewed shows on Apple TV+ with a 93% Rotten Tomatoes score.
So far, season 2 looks even better.
Apple just released the trailer for Platonic season 2, along with a spoiler-free plot summary:
“Platonic” season two picks up with everyone’s favorite pair of best friends (Seth Rogen and Rose Byrne) as they contend with new midlife hurdles, including work, weddings and partners in crises. The duo tries their best to be each other’s rock — but sometimes rocks break things.
Based on the trailer, I love the direction Apple is taking the show.
Platonic’s first season was a fun watch, but it felt like the characters needed to push further into uncomfortable territory. And that’s exactly what seems to be happening in season 2.
Apple TV+ is available for $9.99 per month and features hit TV shows and movies like Ted Lasso, Severance, The Morning Show, Silo, and Shrinking.
