Another wave of streaming service price hikes may be on the horizon: Peacock just announced a $3 increase for each of its plans, which makes its ad-supported option more expensive than almost all of its competitors.
Peacock price hitting $10.99/month for ad-supported plan
If you’ve been meaning to subscribe to Peacock, you have just a few days left at the current rates.
Per Variety, Peacock will hike prices across its two main plans starting July 23.
Peacock Premium (ad-supported) will now be $10.99/month , up from $7.99
, up from $7.99 Peacock Premium Plus will now be $16.99/month, up from $13.99
The new rates mean that the most popular plan—Peacock Premium, which includes ads—will be now more expensive than Apple TV+.
It’s also pricier than other ad-supported plans like:
Netflix ($7.99)
HBO Max ($9.99)
Disney+ ($9.99)
Hulu ($9.99)
Paramount+ ($7.99)
Apple TV+ is $9.99/month and the only noteworthy option in that price range that’s ad-free—it’s also having an exceedingly good year.
While Peacock’s ‘Premium Plus’ plan is cheaper than some other ad-free streamers, now that its ad-supported plan exceeds other options, we may start seeing price hikes from others, too.
Peacock is likely introducing the price increase now to get ahead of the NFL’s return in September and other tentpole fall NBC programming.
How do you feel about the current state of streaming service prices, and will Peacock’s increase sway you at all? Let us know in the comments.
