This fall, Apple will launch a brand new flagship iPhone model: the iPhone 17 Air. Its ultra-thin, futuristic design will be the main selling point, but the iPhone 17 Air is also expected to come with a brand new 6.6-inch screen size. Here’s what rumors say about the display.
6.6-inch iPhone 17 Air display expected to support ProMotion and more
If you’re considering buying an iPhone 17 Air this fall, the screen will no doubt be an important factor.
Rumors for the iPhone 17 Air indicate its display will feature:
6.6-inch size
2,740 x 1,260 resolution
OLED with Dynamic Island like current models
120Hz refresh rate with ProMotion
Always-on support
It’s not often that we get an iPhone with a brand new screen size, but that’s about to happen for a second year in a row.
Last year the iPhone 16 Pro and Pro Max got slightly larger 6.3-inch and 6.9-inch displays. These sizes are expected to remain the same for 17 Pro models.
But this year, the iPhone 17 Air will get a new 6.6-inch display that fits perfectly in-between the two Pro sizes.
Reports from several reliable sources have corroborated the new 17 Air screen size (technically it’s 6.55 inches, but Apple usually rounds up).
Not only that, but iOS 26 beta 2 contained apparent confirmation of the size via a new wallpaper resolution that no existing iPhone models match.
Resolution for the iPhone 17 Air is set to be approximately 2,740 x 1,260.
For the first time in a non-Pro model, the iPhone 17 Air is expected to get a 120Hz refresh rate with ProMotion support.
ProMotion should enable always-on display mode, which will pair nicely with iOS 26’s Liquid Glass changes.
Though the iPhone 17 Air’s display alone is unlikely to be a major selling point, it should at least check enough boxes to make the Air a compelling alternative to more expensive Pro models.
