While shooting Predator: Badlands, director Dan Trachtenberg and his team called it by a codename: “Backpack.” The origin of that name becomes very clear, very quickly in a brand-new action-packed trailer for the film, which features Elle Fanning as a Weyland-Yutani android being carried around by a Predator on his back. Here’s the incredible new trailer for Predator: Badlands: Clearly, there is so much going on in this trailer. So much mythology. So many teases of what’s possible. For example, that sure looks like a cargo loader from Aliens at the end of the trailer. Was Ripley not the first person to do that? Or was, maybe, a creature inspired by her actions if this takes place later? Also, it sure seems like Fanning’s android is almost like a gamekeeper on this planet. Who runs this planet? Where did it come from? And what is this Apex Predator she’s talking about? And what’s this relationship going to be like with a Predator (who is the prey, of course) now walking around with this humanoid android on its back? How is that friendship, or lack thereof, going to impact all the sci-fi action? We don’t know any of this yet but, hopefully, we’ll learn later this week when Predator: Badlands comes to San Diego Comic-Con. For now, though, this trailer is just a blast of excitement and mystery, and we cannot wait. The film opens on November 7.
