Earlier this year, Apple launched the M4 MacBook Air and I came away very impressed. Heading into Apple’s packed fall launch lineup, you might expect the product to fade into the background of the new and shiny. Here are several reasons, though, why I believe the M4 MacBook Air has its biggest days still ahead.
M4 MacBook Air will remain Apple’s newest Mac this fall, and get all the marketing attention
Out of all of Apple’s early 2025 product launches, the M4 MacBook Air looks set for an especially strong rest of the year.
The iPhone 16e, M3 iPad Air, and A16 iPad have all had their moment. But they’ll be overshadowed this fall by the more exciting, impressive flagship iPhone 17 lineup and the M5 iPad Pro.
In an unusual move for Apple, the company isn’t expected to launch any new Macs this fall.
The M5 MacBook Pro was originally rumored, but Mark Gurman says it’s been delayed into early 2026. And the expected Mac Pro update is MIA.
That means the M4 MacBook Air should benefit from all of Apple’s marketing focus in the all-important fall and holiday season.
With no new Mac on the horizon, the M4 MacBook Air will also get a boost from the increased user awareness that macOS Tahoe brings.
Apple only ships a major new macOS software version once per year. And this year, that update includes a Liquid Glass design overhaul.
When macOS Tahoe is promoted, the M4 MacBook Air will likely be the hardware that gets promoted too.
Liquid Glass isn’t the only change that might entice first-time Mac buyers though.
Apple has put extra effort into making its software platforms work better together than ever.
For example, macOS Tahoe includes a handful of changes that make the Mac easier to use for anyone familiar with an iPhone or iPad.
So the OS isn’t just getting a fresh look, it’s also becoming more approachable for those new to Mac.
Price point and base model features make strong case for M4 MacBook Air
Finally, the M4 MacBook Air is set to capitalize on all these different factors because it’s simply a uniquely compelling value.
That $999 starting price is important, no doubt.
But deals can make it even lower (Amazon now has it for just $799).
And unlike last year, when you had M3 and M2 options to choose from, these days the choice is easy: M4 is the only one Apple sells.
And unlike previous models that almost demanded RAM upgrades, the base model M4 MacBook Air has:
16GB of RAM, plus…
the latest-gen M4 chip
a much better 12MP Center Stage camera
it can drive two external displays
and more
For anyone considering updating an old Mac, or buying one for the first time, the M4 MacBook Air is a compelling option.
Normally in the fall, Apple would have brand new Macs ready to steal away consumers’ attention.
This year, the M4 MacBook Air stands to benefit, and it’s hard not to see it succeeding.
M4 MacBook Air is currently available for only $799 on Amazon, down from $999.
