Alibaba introduced a new, more powerful AI chip as part of its strategy to control both the hardware and software underlying its artificial intelligence efforts. The company also outlined plans to build larger AI models going forward.
Alibaba shares rose about 3% in Hong Kong after the company revealed its next-generation Zhenwu V900 AI chip, claiming triple the performance of its predecessor released in May. At its Apsara Conference in Hangzhou, Alibaba also outlined plans to grow its cloud unit's global data center capacity beyond 20 gigawatts by 2032 and confirmed its Qwen 4 model is currently in training.
Huawei says it will not sell its upcoming Ascend 900-series AI accelerators internationally because it cannot yet meet domestic Chinese demand for the chips. Chairman Eric Xu said the company only ships limited volumes to a few countries with especially strong demand. The announcement came alongside a roadmap showing major performance gains for the Ascend 960, 970 and 980 NPUs through 2027.
Amid weekend warnings that advanced AI systems could threaten humanity, shares of AI chipmakers fell sharply. Nvidia confirmed Thursday it has struck a deal to purchase Hugging Face, the widely used open-source AI model repository, for nearly $13 billion. The announcement ends weeks of speculation about a potential acquisition. CEO Jensen Huang pledged the platform will remain open to the broader AI community after the deal closes.
At IFA 2026, Anker introduced a new AI processor called Thus across its Soundcore audio lineup, headlined by the Space 2 Pro over-ear headphones and Liberty Buds 2 earbuds. The chip powers an eight-sensor array for adaptive noise cancellation and real-time voice isolation during calls on both devices. Space 2 Pro offers up to 30 hours of battery with ANC on and launches September 22 for $200, while the $130 Liberty Buds 2 arrive the same day with a custom 9.2mm wool paper diaphragm.
Anker's Eufy division introduced MindBase, a home AI hub that processes data from its security, energy, cleaning and audio devices entirely on-device using a custom LLM and AI chip, avoiding cloud servers. The hub connects via Anker's EasyOmni Link platform and supports Matter, letting it work alongside Apple Home, Alexa and Google Home devices. Eufy also debuted new security hardware, including a radar-equipped Smart Security Shield sensor and a 3K doorbell with facial recognition that identifies familiar faces from up to 30 meters away.
