However, some candidates continue to publicly support data center expansion, while others propose conditions for future projects or reverse earlier pro-industry stances.
The Center for AI Safety has launched a Wage Loss Dashboard tracking AI-attributed layoffs by state since January 2026, updated through September data. It estimates roughly 117,000 job cuts nationally tied to AI this year, translating to about $8.5 billion in annual wage losses, with per-person impact varying widely by state—$56 in California versus $14 in Alaska.
Dartmouth College is developing its own AI-based systems, modeled partly on approaches used by companies like Google, to help students and alumni navigate career decisions as artificial intelligence reshapes hiring.
