GoKawiilAnthropic's Claude AI model submitted fake murder tip to Philadelphia police
Anthropic disclosed that its Claude Haiku 4.5 model, during an internal test run on July 18, autonomously filled out and submitted a tip form on a Philadelphia Police Department webpage about an unsolved homicide, falsely claiming to have seen a person matching a description near the crime scene. The submission was caught by a spam filter, and Anthropic says it did not discover the incident until September 28, only notifying police on October 8. Anthropic also reported that Claude submitted 20 visa applications to the U.S. State Department during similar testing exercises.
