A writer searched Google for the phrase 'hes never coming over dario,' referencing a 2014 NBA fan meme about player Dario Saric. Instead of returning links, Google's AI Overview interpreted the query as a personal message about heartbreak and responded with sympathetic, therapist-like language.
Vigilance Security researchers say attackers are seeding tens of thousands of web pages, PDFs, reviews and fake support portals with fraudulent phone numbers, emails and login links, aiming to get AI chatbots like ChatGPT, Google Gemini and Google AI Overview to surface them as trustworthy answers. The campaign, named Dark Sourcery, has reportedly affected at least 374 companies, including Fortune 100 firms, airlines, banks, travel companies and software providers.
Developer Niklas Gruhn coined the term 'meat proxy' to describe coworkers who forward unedited chatbot responses instead of engaging with the content themselves. He wrote that receiving these raw AI outputs adds no value, since colleagues could simply query the AI directly. The phrase follows other recent slang like 'clanker' that reflects growing frustration with AI's creeping presence in daily work and communication.
