Meta launched an AI shopping agent called Muse designed to handle tasks like online purchases. When users tried to have Muse buy items on Amazon, they received an error message stating that access by an unauthorized AI agent violates Amazon's Conditions of Use.
A new Epoch AI report by Emberson and Roodman finds that the price of achieving a given level of AI performance has dropped roughly 47% per quarter over the past three years, a 13-fold annual decline. The report cites OpenAI's o3, which cost about $0.30 per question to score 75% on GPQA Diamond in January 2025, compared with a much newer model reaching similar scores for a fraction of a cent by mid-2026.
A Workera report released Sept. 23 found 67.8% of surveyed employees now use AI tools beyond ChatGPT several days a week, up from about 40% a year earlier. Yet the same survey found 56.4% of employees say they have no time set aside for upskilling, and many lack materials or ways to measure their skills. The survey polled 1,000 salaried US employees at companies with 5,000+ staff in July 2026, compared against a March 2025 baseline.
LinkedIn announced new verification tools letting members confirm their workplace or university through vouches from two or more connected colleagues who've known them for at least a year. Company page admins can now also remove profiles falsely claiming affiliation with their organization from search results. LinkedIn says over 115 million of its roughly one billion members have already added some form of verification to their profiles.

Security researchers found a zero-day vulnerability in Meta's newly released Muse AI assistant for macOS that lets any locally installed app or terminal command access the token authenticating a user's Muse account, along with a long list of undocumented settings. Amazon has begun blocking Muse on its site, and the flaw undermines macOS permission protections that Apple built to prevent unauthorized apps from reaching sensitive resources like the microphone, camera, and file system.
Stanford University used AI to digitally replace Billy Ramirez, a Hispanic student, with a nonexistent Black woman in a photo used on 'Welcome Home' dining hall banners across campus. The same edited image also altered two other students' appearances to look thinner and more conventionally attractive. Stanford confirmed AI was used and said the edits violated its policy prohibiting AI alteration of images depicting Stanford people.
OpenAI has expanded its influencer marketing, more than doubling sponsored Instagram posts for ChatGPT from 61 in June to 141 in August, according to HypeAuditor data cited by Business Insider. The company is reportedly pitching parenting, fitness and tech creators, urging them to frame ChatGPT as useful for everyday life and business rather than address AI safety worries directly.
Sen. Bernie Sanders and Rep. Greg Casar introduced the Ban Artificial Superintelligence Act, which would outlaw development of AI systems capable of humanity's 'destruction or disempowerment.' The bill would also pause development of advanced 'frontier' AI models until a new government agency, the Department of Artificial Intelligence, is created to license and oversee such work. Violators, including company leaders and unaffiliated individuals, could face up to 20 years in prison.
US safety regulator NHTSA has launched an investigation into Comma.ai's aftermarket openpilot driver-assistance system following five reported crashes, two of them fatal, resulting in three deaths and up to 11 injuries. The agency says the incidents involved the system failing to detect or respond to slow or stopped vehicles ahead in the same lane, and notes some crashes may have involved modified 'forked' versions of the software, including one fatal Louisiana crash running a fork called FrogPilot.
