Apple's iOS 27 update introduces the revamped Siri AI experience to CarPlay, giving drivers a ChatGPT-like conversational assistant that remembers context and syncs chat history with the iPhone's Siri app. The update also lets developers build dedicated video-browsing apps for CarPlay screens, though only in cars whose automakers opt into the feature, alongside minor interface tweaks like a new MiniPlayer for media apps.
Smart TVs still rely on remote controls, and many now support using a smartphone as a substitute via built-in IR blasters or app-based connectivity. Certain Android phones have infrared hardware and pre-installed universal remote apps that let users pair with their TV brand and control power, volume, and navigation. Devices from Apple, Samsung, and Google lack this IR hardware, but alternative software-based remote options exist for those users.
Apple has released HomePod 27 alongside iOS 27, bringing two main upgrades: AutoMix for Apple Music, which blends songs together with beatmatching and time-stretching similar to a live DJ set, and improved AirPlay performance for quicker, more reliable connections between HomePod and other Apple devices. The update also includes general bug fixes and security patches, and is installed through the Home app's Software Update section.
Roku streaming devices include an auto power saving setting that puts the device into low power mode and attempts to turn off the connected TV after 20 minutes of inactivity. Users experiencing unexpected shutdowns can wake the device via the TV, remote, mobile app, or casting tools, or disable the setting entirely to prevent it from happening again.
