GoKawiilYouTube targets early 2027 for AV2 codec rollout on web
YouTube says it plans to begin streaming with the AV2 video codec on its web platform as early as 2027, according to engineering director Des Keane. The company notes that over 90% of its catalog by watch time already uses AV1, and AV2 is expected to offer notably better compression efficiency for streaming.
