Study links sugar-heavy diets to worse gut microbiome damage during antibiotic treatment in transplant patients
Researchers at Memorial Sloan Kettering tracked meal-by-meal food intake for adult stem cell transplant patients from 2017 to 2022, recording what percentage of each dish patients actually ate. The team then analyzed how these dietary patterns interacted with antibiotic exposure and gut microbiome recovery, using neutrophil engraftment and survival data as clinical outcomes.
