A developer demonstrated animated ASCII art rendered for web pages, using examples such as a scrolling AlmaLinux logo and a ring of five colored figures that intermittently scan. The art is built from text characters and designed to display in browsers, echoing the style of terminal boot-time distro logos.
PyPy has shipped v8.0.0, updating its Linux build infrastructure to manylinux_2_28 images based on AlmaLinux 8, glibc 2.28, and gcc14, replacing the older gcc5 toolchain. The release also lays groundwork for supporting cp312-abi3 wheels by restructuring how PyPy's internal PyObject extension field is stored and by no longer renaming exported limited-API function names.
CERN engineers announced at a Winterthur conference that the lab will shift over 2,200 machines from Red Hat Enterprise Linux to Debian. The move stems from RHEL 9 and 10's newer compiler requirements, which drop support for older CPU architectures still used in many of CERN's embedded control systems.
