GoKawiilResearchers detect 2D d-wave altermagnetism in KV2Se2O using topological insulator probe
Scientists used the helical edge states of the higher-order topological insulator α-Bi4Br4 as a spin-sensitive scanning tunnelling microscope tip to probe the surface of KV2Se2O. The measurements mapped the two vanadium sublattices and checkerboard antiferromagnetic order in real space, and detected a bias-reversing d-wave anisotropy between symmetry-paired valleys in momentum space, confirming altermagnetic order on the material's surface.
