Apple launches 'Stay on Safari' campaign targeting Chrome users

Apple has launched a marketing push urging Chrome users to switch to Safari, claiming up to five additional hours of video streaming battery life on a Mac and page loads up to 35% faster. The faster-loading claim is based on tests of 12 popular websites run on 15-inch MacBook Air laptops with M5 chips and 16GB of memory under simulated network conditions. Chrome currently holds about 66% of browser market share versus Safari's roughly 18%, according to StatCounter.

Firefox for iOS Adds Built-In Ad Blocker Using WebKit and EasyList

Mozilla has launched a native Ad Blocker feature for Firefox on iOS that blocks many third-party ads and ad-related trackers before they load. The feature relies on Apple's WebKit Content Blocker technology and the EasyList filter list, and is disabled by default, requiring users to enable it through Settings > Browsing > Ad Blocker.

Apple patches iCloud Private Relay IP leak in iOS 26.6.1 update

Apple has silently fixed a flaw in iCloud Private Relay that allowed a user's real IP address to leak under three specific conditions, despite the feature being enabled. Security researchers Talal Haj Bakry and Tommy Mysk, who discovered the issue and built a public tool to test for it, confirmed the fix landed in iOS 26.6.1 (and matching updates for other Apple platforms) though Apple did not disclose it in official release notes. The researchers noted the repair appears limited to Safari and was made without them first reporting it to Apple.
