Asahi Linux has merged support for M3 series Macs into its installer, meaning most hardware—including webcams, microphones, USB, WiFi, Bluetooth, and hardware-accelerated video decoding with AV1—now works out of the box. GPU acceleration and full display controller (DCP) support remain unfinished, so sleep mode and HDMI output are currently disabled on affected machines.
Asahi Linux developers have officially declared support for Apple's M3, M3 Pro, and M3 Max Macs, bringing them close to parity with earlier M1/M2 support—except for the Mac Studio M3 Ultra, which remains unsupported. Key limitations remain, including weak GPU acceleration, no sleep mode, and non-functional HDMI ports on M3 MacBooks due to missing DCP support.
The Asahi Linux project has released version 7.2 of its Progress Linux distribution, continuing its effort to bring full Linux support to Apple Silicon Macs. This update focuses heavily on improving power management, particularly around how the application CPU cores enter and exit sleep states using ARM's Wait For Interrupt instruction and Apple's deep-sleep variant. The team is also working to align its downstream power management driver with the standardized Power State Coordination Interface required for upstream kernel acceptance.
