A benchmark description surfaced detailing how an AI system referred to as GPT-6 Astra was evaluated on a driving course, measuring progress along a centerline, GPS-based distance, finish time, and accepted motion commands. The metrics track whether the run stayed within 4 meters of the course, whether it finished or collided, and how commands like set_motion and stop_now were executed during the attempt.
Waymo has started manually driving and mapping all regions of Singapore around the clock, gathering data it needs to seek approval from the Land Transport Authority for autonomous operations by 2027. Initial runs will use human specialists behind the wheel, with the company promising public notice before shifting to autonomous-specialist and eventually fully driverless operations. Data collected will be handled under Singapore's Personal Data Protection Act and Waymo's own privacy policy.
A video posted on X shows a Tesla Cybercab's central touchscreen switching into an undisclosed control mode featuring a virtual joystick, letting a person drag a finger to steer the vehicle. The rider said the display appeared in this unusual configuration unprompted, and the screen also showed door controls, a support button, and a camera feed that seemed to include non-live imagery from a previous location. Tesla has not acknowledged or explained this manual-driving interface publicly.
Waymo's VP of Onboard Software, Srikanth Thirumalai, published a blog post arguing that cameras alone cannot achieve safe full autonomy, citing over 200 million autonomous miles as evidence. Though he never names Tesla, the post is widely seen as a direct rebuttal to Elon Musk's camera-only strategy, which Waymo contrasts with its own use of lidar, radar and cameras together.
