A developer has released EyesRhythm, a free desktop app for macOS and Windows that uses a webcam to monitor blink frequency and encourage healthier blink rhythms during screen use. The app requires no account or license key, and the developer states that camera frames are processed locally and never leave the user's machine. Installers are available as a DMG for Mac and an EXE for Windows, version 1.5.0.
Blink announced five new cameras priced between $50 and $200, available for preorder starting October 21st: the Frontier XR+, Outdoor 2K XR+, Mini 4K+, Pan-Tilt Zoom 2K+, and Spotlight 2K+. Researchers tested 18 cat–human pairs in the cats' home environments, comparing how cats reacted when their owners performed slow, deliberate blinking gestures versus periods with no interaction. Owners were trained using Facial Action Coding System guidance to standardize the slow blink movements, and cats' facial responses were filmed for comparison between the two conditions.
