Brave released new benchmark data asserting its desktop browser consumes 44% less CPU, 28% less memory, and 10% less energy than Chrome, Edge, and Firefox, while loading full pages about 20% faster. The company attributes the gains largely to blocking ads, trackers, and analytics scripts that would otherwise generate extra background processing after the visible page content loads.
Google has completed its long-planned phase-out of Manifest V2 by removing all remaining MV2 extensions from the Chrome Web Store, including the popular ad blocker uBlock Origin. Extensions already installed on Chrome 138 or earlier will keep working but can no longer receive updates or be reinstalled once removed. Because the Chrome Web Store also serves other Chromium-based browsers, the removal affects users beyond Google Chrome itself.
Brave has released version 1.94 of its browser with a new Email Aliases feature that lets users create disposable email addresses for signing up to websites, while messages are still forwarded to their real inbox. The feature requires a free Brave Account and works separately from Brave Premium, with up to five aliases available at no cost before a paid tier removes that limit.
