Study finds butterfly flight patterns create optical illusions that confuse predators

Researchers report that the erratic, looping flight of butterflies produces visual effects that make it difficult for predators—and humans—to accurately track and predict their movement. The findings suggest this unpredictable motion is not random but may function as a defensive strategy against being caught mid-flight.
