IBM Study Finds AI Reshaping Software Performance Testing, But ROI Lags

IBM's Institute for Business Value surveyed 2,000 CEOs across 33 countries and found 61% say their organizations are actively adopting or scaling AI agents, including in performance testing. Yet the same study found only 25% of AI initiatives have delivered expected returns and just 16% have scaled enterprise-wide, meaning much of the performance-testing use case remains unproven despite broad adoption intent.

Study: Most CEOs see no financial payoff from AI despite heavy spending

Stanford's 2026 AI Index finds 88% of companies have adopted AI in some part of their business, while a PwC CEO survey found 56% of CEOs reported neither revenue growth nor cost reduction from AI, with only 12% seeing both. IDC projects enterprises will spend $409 billion on AI platforms, applications, and services this year.
