GM confirms closure of Brownstown battery assembly plant near Detroit

GM is shutting down its Brownstown Battery Assembly Plant south of Detroit, which supplied battery packs for the Cadillac Celestiq and battery packs and drive units for the Corvette E-Ray. A GM spokesperson told TechCrunch the closure stems from an expiring lease on the site, not the company's EV strategy, and that affected employees and work will be relocated to other GM facilities.

GM brings Apple Wallet car keys to Cadillac, Chevrolet and GMC models

General Motors has begun rolling out Apple Wallet digital car key support across nine vehicles from Cadillac, Chevrolet and GMC, including the Escalade, Lyriq, Tahoe, Suburban and Yukon lines. The rollout started in a limited form in late September, is expanding through October, and will reach the remaining vehicles by December, with GM saying more models will gain support over time.

GM updates infotainment on 2027 Silverado and Sierra with deeper CarPlay, Android Auto integration

GM unveiled new dashboard software for its next-generation gas-powered pickups, the 2027 Chevrolet Silverado 1500 and GMC Sierra 1500, featuring a redesigned home screen, tighter Super Cruise integration, and improved compatibility with Apple CarPlay and Android Auto. The upgrade applies only to combustion models, continuing GM's separate strategy for its EV lineup, which dropped phone-mirroring support in 2023 in favor of Google Built-In software.

GM restores CarPlay, Android Auto via new splitscreen dashboard in 2027 trucks

General Motors is reversing course on plans to drop Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, instead building a new infotainment interface that runs them alongside native vehicle gauges in a splitscreen layout. The system debuts in the 2027 Chevrolet Silverado and GMC Sierra, which feature roughly 60 inches of combined screen space including a passenger video display, and will later expand to other GM models. GM says it collaborated directly with Apple and Google to design the shared-screen experience.

GM's 2027 Silverado and Sierra get minimalist digital display, keep CarPlay support

GM is redesigning the instrument clusters and infotainment interfaces for the 2027 Chevrolet Silverado and GMC Sierra pickups, opting for a cleaner, less cluttered look than previous models. The new system uses a black background with local dimming, offers multiple driving-mode views including off-road and towing displays, and notably retains Apple CarPlay and Android Auto support despite GM phasing them out of its electric vehicles.

GM redesigns truck infotainment to add CarPlay picture-in-picture on 2027 Silverado, Sierra

General Motors is overhauling the infotainment system in its next-generation Chevrolet Silverado 1500 and GMC Sierra 1500 trucks, arriving later this year as 2027 models. The update includes new animated graphics, simplified menus for towing and off-roading, larger touch targets across more than 60 inches of combined screen space, and picture-in-picture support for Apple CarPlay and Android Auto.
