The Arizona Court of Appeals vacated the 10½-year sentence given to Gabriel Paul Horcasitas for the 2021 killing of Christopher Pelkey, after finding that a judge improperly relied on an AI-generated video depicting Pelkey offering forgiveness. The court ordered Horcasitas be resentenced, ruling that the judge's visible emotional reaction to the video made the original sentencing hearing fundamentally unfair.
