Malwarebytes reported a phishing campaign that impersonates a promotion from Anthropic, falsely claiming to offer 10,000 users a free month of Claude Max to mark 100 million users. Victims who click through are directed to a fake Google login page designed to steal their credentials, using a convincing 'browser-in-a-browser' overlay that mimics a real Google sign-in window.
A group of Claude users filed a class-action lawsuit against Anthropic on September 8, alleging the company misled subscribers about usage limits on its $100 and $200 Max plans. The suit contends Anthropic advertised 5x and 20x more usage than the Pro tier without disclosing that weekly caps, added months after Max launched in April 2025, sharply reduce the real benefit compared to the marketed multiplier.
UK-based AI consultant Grant de Swardt found his Claude Max subscription burning through tokens even when he wasn't using the service. Anthropic investigated and told him a compromised session key had been used to generate unauthorized OAuth tokens, allowing a third party to consume his allotted usage. The company suspended his account, wiped his active sessions, and issued a partial refund but could not explain how the credentials were obtained.
An independent game developer built Wyvern using a self-organized workforce of 50-60 AI agents, led by 18 long-running Claude Fable instances acting as department heads, supported by headless Claude Sol and Opus fleets for implementation and review. The setup burns roughly $122,000 a month in equivalent API usage, though the developer pays only about $5,000 out of pocket by exploiting Claude Max's flat-rate individual pricing across 21 accounts, running everything on a $25,000 secondhand 512GB Mac Studio.
