DoltLite, a fork of SQLite that swaps its B-tree storage layer for a Git-style Prolly Tree engine, has reached Beta status at version 0.50.0 just five months after launch. The project reuses SQLite's SQL parser, analyzer and file system code untouched, while the underlying storage was rebuilt to support branching, merging, diffing and syncing like Dolt and Git. The maintainers say the work was largely completed through around 2,000 pull requests generated by AI coding agents using an orchestrator called Gas Town.

Android phones running version 6.0 or later include a built-in feature called Absolute Bluetooth Volume, which links your phone's volume buttons directly to connected Bluetooth speakers or headphones. When the phone's volume scale doesn't match a Bluetooth device's internal amplification, the sync can glitch, causing unresponsive buttons followed by sudden full-volume blasts. Android includes a native toggle to turn this feature off without installing extra apps.

New York Governor Kathy Hochul publicly responded to Cody Wilson, a leading advocate for 3D-printed firearms, saying she intends to act ahead of his efforts to spread untraceable, unregulated guns. She defended the state's strict gun laws, including background checks and registration requirements, as key to New York's low gun homicide rate.

A build guide for retro arcade cabinets advises starting not with hardware choices like the Raspberry Pi, but with deciding which games you want to play, since that determines control layout needs. It recommends mocking up control panels on cardboard before cutting wood, and outlines three paths for the cabinet body itself: building from plywood or MDF, buying a flat-pack kit, or repurposing an existing cabinet.

An early, unofficial leak of NVIDIA's upcoming DLSS 5 technology has surfaced, showing its neural rendering applied to games like Control and Skyrim. The AI-altered faces look strangely aged or overly realistic while clashing with untouched, lower-poly bodies and stiff animations, producing an uncanny visual mismatch. Testing also showed a steep performance cost, with Control's frame rate reportedly dropping from 71 fps to 35 fps at 4K on an RTX 5070 Ti when Neural Rendering was enabled.

A day after DLSS 5's nvngx_dlssnr.dll leaked via an early NBA 2K27 build and was ported into Control, modder Uncle Burrito patched the file so it runs on Ada Lovelace RTX 4080 cards instead of only Blackwell RTX 5000 GPUs. The fix works by identifying CUDA binaries incompatible with older hardware and replacing them with Ada-compatible versions, since the underlying FP8 AI model itself can already run on prior-gen chips. Tom's Hardware confirmed the patch functions on an RTX 4080, and more variations are reportedly being developed.

A file named nvngx_dlssnr.dll was found inside NBA 2K27's early access build, revealing pieces of Nvidia's unreleased DLSS 5 neural rendering system. A RenoDX modder used the library to enable DLSS 5-style effects on character models in Control, exposing seven adjustable style and intensity sliders.

Anthropic has released a research preview of what it calls the Model Hardware Standard, a set of standardized drivers that let AI agents communicate directly with physical devices like lasers, microscopes, and cameras. The system replaces custom 'translator' software normally needed to connect disparate lab equipment, aiming to cut experimental setup time from weeks to hours. The idea grew out of observing a neuroscientist's manual effort to coordinate multiple instruments for a memory-formation study.

A blogger describes a quirk of using GHCi (and ghcid) for live code reloading: GHCi can only track one set of source files at a time, so a properly separated project with distinct executable, library and test components can't have all parts reloaded simultaneously. To work around this while editing both tests and program code, the author merges everything into a single component, a compromise unsuitable for serious projects but workable for small experiments.

At the second World Humanoid Robot Games in Beijing (August 22-26), robots competing in a 100-meter sprint and standing high jump beat human world records set by Usain Bolt and others, marking a jump from last year's event where they trailed human performance. Some sprinting robots couldn't stop in time, crashing into barriers, falling, and in a few cases breaking apart with sparks or catching fire, while separate tasks like hanging laundry showed robots still moving far slower than humans.

A commentary published on nature.com calls on rights holders and publishers to revise existing copyright licensing agreements specifically to block unauthorized use of creative and scholarly works by AI training systems. The authors argue that current licence terms were not designed with machine-learning ingestion in mind, leaving a gap that companies have exploited to harvest content without consent or compensation.
