A three-person data platform team at a roughly 500-person company built a side tool in February to host HTML files generated by AI coding assistants like Claude Code. Eight months later, that tool reportedly has as many or more weekly users as the company's Looker business intelligence subscription, while Looker usage has dropped by about a third.

AI-driven analytics tools now let users generate data reports through conversation, but doing so often creates a scattered mix of HTML, CSS, JavaScript, chart libraries, and app frameworks like React or Streamlit. This makes it hard to trace a chart back to its underlying data, slowing down both human review and the AI agent's own iteration speed. Traditional BI vendors instead added AI copilots to existing dashboards, keeping outputs controlled but limiting agents to whatever the interface already supports.
