Decompiling

Developer uses GPT-6.1 Sol Medium to decompile 2001 game Fast Food Tycoon 2

A hobbyist developer reverse-engineered the 2001 business simulator Fast Food Tycoon 2 by building an AI-driven agentic workflow powered by GPT-6.1 Sol Medium. The process used Ghidra to decompile over 4,000 functions from the game's executable, then indexed the resulting code in SQLite and paired it with live memory inspection via Windows' ReadProcessMemory API to map code to in-game behavior. The agent also patched the game's message handler to send it commands directly, allowing automated control of the interface.

AI tools accelerate game decompilation, enabling fast ports and mods

AI systems are now able to reverse-engineer compiled video games and software back into source code far faster than manual efforts, which previously took years and required large community projects like OpenGOAL and Ship of Harkinian. The resulting decompiled code can be modified, enhanced with features such as higher frame rates and dynamic resolution, and recompiled to run natively on other platforms.
