New feathered dinosaur fossil found in China, named Norellraptor barsboldi

Researchers from China, Italy and Slovakia described a 57-centimetre fossil of a new microraptorine species, discovered by a local farmer in Liaoning province and estimated to be about three years old at death. The find, published in Nature Communications, shows feather traces on the limbs and tail of this close bird relative, which lived between 145 and 100 million years ago.

Study finds Earth's rotational axis shifted repeatedly during dinosaur era

New research indicates that Earth underwent multiple episodes of true polar wander—a shift in the planet's rotational axis relative to its surface—during the age of dinosaurs. Scientists say these shifts, which occur as the planet rebalances its mass distribution, were accompanied by changes in global sea levels.

Diplodocus fossils found in Spain, first outside North America

Researchers at Fundación Dinópolis identified 14 tail vertebrae and chevron bones from the La Tejería site near El Castellar, Teruel, as belonging to Diplodocus, a genus previously known only from North America. The specimen, dated to roughly 150 million years ago, is estimated at 25 meters long, comparable in size to its American counterparts.
