Reanalysis of Egyptian skulls finds signs of 'retainer sacrifice'

A new study in Frontiers in Environmental Archaeology re-examined skulls excavated in the 1920s from First Dynasty Egyptian tombs and found that more than a third show evidence of blunt force trauma. Bioarchaeologist Roselyn Campbell of Purdue University led the analysis, applying modern forensic methods to century-old remains to investigate whether servants were killed to accompany early pharaohs into the afterlife.

New geophysical data revive claims of hidden chambers near Tutankhamun's tomb

Researchers led by Mamdouh Eldamaty and Nicholas Reeves say gravitational surveys and ground-penetrating radar reveal signs of a concealed complex of corridors and rooms adjoining Tutankhamun's KV62 tomb in the Valley of the Kings. The team believes this structure predates Tutankhamun's burial and could be linked to Queen Nefertiti, though excavation approval from Egypt's Supreme Council of Antiquities is still pending.
