reMarkable has released a software update for its E-Ink tablets that lets users circle any part of the screen to capture and copy it as an image, which can then be repositioned or moved between notebooks. The update also adds green, yellow, cyan, and magenta pen colors, improves grayscale differentiation, and enables importing JPG and PNG files directly from Dropbox, Google Drive, or OneDrive.
Storyteller has grown from a single Python script into a full ecosystem, including web, mobile, and e-reader plugin apps, with new versions in alpha and beta testing. At its core is an alignment algorithm that automatically matches ebook text to audiobook narration and embeds this synchronization using the EPUB Media Overlays standard, enabling word-by-word highlighted narration in supported reader apps.
A new open-source project called Bookshelf offers a self-hosted ebook library that renders a single searchable page for EPUB and PDF files, with in-browser readers for each format. It can run as a Cloudflare Worker backed by R2 object storage or as a Node server reading from a local directory, and ships a Docker setup that bundles the cwebp and pdftoppm tools needed for proper cover generation.
