GoKawiilmacOS 27.0 adds mysterious /pkg directory to system PATH
A developer troubleshooting a PATH issue discovered a new /pkg/env/global/bin entry added via a system configuration file in macOS 27.0. The /pkg directory, containing subfolders env, etc, inv, and var, was reportedly added to the Data volume in macOS 26.4 and later to the root Signed System Volume in 27.0, according to researcher Howard Oakley. No official explanation for the directory's purpose has been found.
