Explainer: How Fused Deposition Modeling 3D printers work

Fused Deposition Modeling (FDM) is a widely used 3D printing method that builds objects layer by layer by melting thermoplastic filament and depositing it along paths defined by a CAD file. The printer repeats this layering process, which can take hours or days depending on the machine, settings and model complexity, until the object is complete. FDM supports a range of filaments including PLA, PETG, ABS, TPU, nylon, wood and metal composites, HDPE, and PETT.

Bambu Lab loses $27.6M patent verdict to Stratasys over X1, P1, A1 printers

A Texas jury ruled that Bambu Lab's X1, P1, and A1 printer lines infringe two Stratasys patents covering prime tower purging and bed-leveling force-sensor methods, ordering Bambu Lab to pay $27.6 million in damages. No injunction was issued against the affected machines, all part of Bambu's first-generation lineup. Bambu Lab's newer H2 and X2 series use dual-nozzle and optical-sensor designs that reportedly sidestep the disputed patents.
