Chinese researchers hit 3.2 Pbps real-time speed on single optical fiber

A team from CICT's National Key Laboratory, Peng Cheng Laboratory and FiberHome Fujikura achieved 3.2 petabits per second of bidirectional data transmission over a 24-core optical fiber spanning 10.3 kilometers. This surpasses the group's earlier 2.5 Pbps record set earlier this year, using thousands of parallel channels across three wavelength bands and in-house optical modules designed for real-time, commercial-grade performance rather than lab-only experimental gear.

Chinese researchers set 3.2 Pb/s real-time fiber-optic transmission record

A team from China's National Key Laboratory of Optical Communication Technology, along with Pengcheng Laboratory, CICT, and Fiberhome Fujikura Fiber Optic Technology, achieved a real-time data transfer speed of 3.2 petabits per second over 24-core optical fiber cable. This surpasses their own previous record of 2.5 Pb/s set earlier this year, marking close to a 30% improvement, and was achieved using spatial division multiplexing combined with S+C+L multi-band transmission technology on commercially compliant hardware.
