Sony has introduced three new Walkman digital music players running Android 16: the NW-WM1ZM3, NW-WM1AM3 and NW-ZX900, priced from $1,900 to $5,900. The top model, a gold-plated unit with 256GB storage, supports formats like FLAC, DSD and Apple Lossless, and includes Wi-Fi, Bluetooth, and roughly 30 hours of battery life.

Sol Music Player for macOS Goes Free and Open Source

Developer 'fulltimefeline' has released Sol, a native macOS music player and jukebox app, as free and open-source software with no subscriptions, trials, or in-app purchases. The app plays local files directly from user folders across drives and network shares, supports a wide range of audio formats including FLAC, DSD, and ALAC, and offers gapless playback, crossfade, and bit-perfect output. It's available via GitHub Releases, a notarized build, or Homebrew.

Dolby Atmos and Lossless Audio Are Not the Same Thing, and Rarely Combine

Streaming tags like 'Dolby Atmos' and 'Lossless' refer to two separate audio technologies: Atmos creates a 3D soundstage by placing sounds in space, while lossless audio preserves the full quality of a recording without the data loss found in formats like MP3 or AAC. Because Atmos typically relies on the lossy Dolby Digital Plus codec, and lossless streaming uses formats like FLAC or ALAC, most platforms can't offer both simultaneously.
