Situational Awareness founder Leopold Aschenbrenner reportedly planned to buy galaxies with AI wealth

According to a Wall Street Journal report, former OpenAI researcher and hedge fund founder Leopold Aschenbrenner told people at San Francisco gatherings that he intended to save money to eventually purchase entire galaxies, believing AI would unlock unlimited resources and space colonization. He reportedly even promised to buy one for his wife, Anthropic chief of staff Avital Balwit. His fund, Situational Awareness, has since lost over two-thirds of its value amid a tech sell-off and is now under SEC investigation.

NASA's Roman Space Telescope set for August 30 launch to probe dark matter and dark energy

NASA plans to launch the Nancy Grace Roman Space Telescope as early as August 30 from Kennedy Space Center. The observatory matches Hubble's resolution but offers a field of view about 100 times larger, enabling it to map vast regions of sky to study dark matter and dark energy over a five-year primary mission. Scientists also expect it to detect as many as 200,000 new exoplanets, far surpassing the roughly 6,300 confirmed so far.
