AMD's Gigabyte Gaming Radeon RX 9070 GRE, a 12GB RDNA 4 graphics card, has dropped to $499 at Newegg through a promotional email code, matching its lowest price ever recorded and undercutting its $569.99 list price by $70. The card uses a cut-down Navi 48 chip with 48 compute units and 220W power draw, delivering strong 1080p and solid 1440p gaming performance in prior benchmarks.
Brazilian YouTuber Fabian (fmklab) built a working version of the RTX 3070 Ti 16GB that Nvidia never shipped, by fitting an RTX 3070 Ti GPU onto an RTX 3070 PCB and swapping in higher-capacity Samsung GDDR6 chips. After reconfiguring the board's memory straps using Nvidia's BIOS Reader tool, the card correctly recognized the full 16GB pool in GPU-Z, matching the specs of a prototype that had only ever surfaced in database listings and photos.
A hobbyist bought two ASRock BC-250 mining cards from AliExpress for £126 and £103 respectively, and successfully unlocked all 40 compute units on both despite AMD's binning meant to disable some cores. One card also unlocked all 8 CPU cores, while the other had one faulty core, but both performed well running the gpt-oss-20b language model via llama.cpp, hitting up to 100 tokens per second at 8K context.
Researchers demonstrated a new Rowhammer variant called GPUThor that defeats NVIDIA's ECC memory protections on Ampere-class workstation GPUs, including the RTX A4000, A4500, A5000, and A6000. By using a non-uniform hammering pattern tuned to avoid triggering GDDR6's Target Row Refresh defenses, the attack generates far more bit flips than earlier concepts like GPUHammer, enabling denial-of-service conditions and root-level privilege escalation.
