Android Authority found new text strings in a Google Messages beta build (version messages.android_20260924_00_RC00) referencing RCS video calling features, including a confirmation screen with a 'Call' button. The feature builds on the RCS Universal Profile 4.0 standard, which introduced native video calling within chat threads, and follows an earlier single string spotted in May pointing to early development.
Google has extended its 'Take notes for me' feature in Meet with a new 'Quick notes' function that generates a one-page, high-level summary of a meeting with bullet points and checklists. The summary appears on the main tab of the auto-generated Google Doc, while full detailed notes remain available on a separate tab, and the same summary is emailed to participants.
Google is launching Googlebook OS, a new operating system built on Android that will run on five debut laptops, including a Dell-made XPS Googlebook with high-end specs like 16GB of RAM and a Qualcomm chip. Hardware chief Rick Osterloh describes the move as a consolidation effort, ending years of Google maintaining separate ChromeOS and Android platforms for laptops versus phones and other devices.
