Singapore's GovTech Launches Pilot Dating App FirstDate for Public Officers

Singapore's Government Technology Agency has launched FirstDate, a pilot matchmaking service for singles aged 21 to 35, currently limited to public officers, with applications closing Oct. 5. Instead of profile swiping, users complete a questionnaire and receive one match per cycle using the Gale-Shapley stable-matching algorithm, along with a compatibility score and personal note. Matches have 72 hours to mutually accept before contact details are exchanged, and accounts are verified via Singapore's Singpass digital ID system.

Singapore launches ReadSG, a cash-for-reading campaign via CrowdTaskSG

Singapore's National Library Board began ReadSG on September 6, 2026, a five-year effort that pays people small amounts to read. Logging 15 minutes of reading on GovTech's CrowdTaskSG platform earns 20 virtual coins, with 1,000 coins worth S$1, capped at one session per day. A companion effort, Read for Good, tracks total reading minutes across all participants and pledges up to S$150,000 to charity if 7.5 million cumulative minutes are logged.
