Scientists have synthesized a ribbon-shaped carbon nanostructure built from repeating pentagon and heptagon rings rather than the hexagons found in graphene, according to a report. The altered lattice geometry gives the material metallic electronic properties, distinguishing it from standard semiconducting or semimetallic carbon nanostructures.
