AMD to Bring FSR 4 Support to Laptops and Handhelds by 2026

AMD's senior VP Jack Huynh announced that FSR 4, a machine learning-based upscaling technology, will be available on a range of APUs, gaming laptops, and handheld gaming PCs before the end of 2026. The company also plans to launch new APUs supporting FSR 4 later this year, possibly the Ryzen Z3 series. Devices like the GPD Win, Asus ROG Ally X, and Lenovo Legion Go are expected to benefit from this update, while RDNA 2 hardware may need to wait until next year for FSR 4 support.

Analogue Pocket pre-orders reopen October 2 at $240

Analogue will reopen pre-orders for its Pocket handheld and Dock accessory on October 2 at 11am ET. Units are expected to ship within two weeks of purchase, and the console still carries the $240 price following a $20 tariff-related increase applied at its last restock in March.

Developers port Valve's new Arm-based SteamOS to Android gaming handhelds

Valve released an Arm version of SteamOS following its Snapdragon-powered Steam Frame headset, and developers hashtagbasit and MaSieS4Fun quickly adapted it to run on Android handhelds. The port can be installed from a microSD card on devices including the AYN Odin 2 family, AYN Thor, Retroid Pocket 6, and several AYANEO Pocket models, letting users try SteamOS without wiping internal storage. Android Authority tested the MaSieS4Fun build on an AYN Odin 2 Portal and reported it booted and set up successfully after first installing the Rocknix ABL bootloader.

Nitrodeck Launcher update adds support for dual-screen Android handhelds

Developer Mr. Rubik is preparing an update for the Nintendo DS-themed Nitrodeck Launcher that lets it run across two screens on Android handhelds like the Anbernic RG DS. A demo video shows the launcher working smoothly, including a recreation of the DS startup screen, with the update expected on the Play Store within a week or two.

Acer unveils Project DualPlay Mini, a handheld that folds into a laptop

Acer showed off a concept device called Project DualPlay Mini, an 8-inch Windows handheld gaming PC that opens up like a laptop to reveal a backlit physical keyboard, with the screen swiveling inward to complete the transformation. Alongside it, Acer launched the Predator Atlas 7, a smaller 7-inch sibling to the Predator Atlas 8 handheld released earlier this year.
